Who we are and what we do
The Friends of Derwent Hill is a registered charity (1125869) that raises funds to assist the children and young people of Sunderland to attend Derwent Hill Outdoor Education Centre, and experience purposeful, enjoyable and safe outdoor learning opportunities.
FoDH was formed in 2007 and its volunteers and trustees have been able to provide financial assistance via bursaries to hundreds of children and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, enabling them to experience the fantastic outdoor learning and personal development opportunities offered by Derwent Hill in the heart of the Lake District. The FoDH have also funded the purchase of specialist equipment to enable all children and young people equal access to all activities at Derwent Hill.
The aims of the Friends of Derwent Hill
To support Derwent Hill in providing outdoor education opportunities for children and young people.
To raise monies;
- to increase access to activities at Derwent Hill, particularly by disadvantaged children and young people of Sunderland.
- to enhance the resources of Derwent Hill in order to enrich the educational experience of users.
To foster links between Derwent Hill, Sunderland Schools and the wider community in order to provide more educational opportunities.
The Charity and its Trustees
FoDH trustees come from a wide variety of backgrounds and offer their own time and expertise to raise funds. We are always looking for new volunteers and trustees who would like give up a small amount of their time to assist the FoDH. How to apply for a FoDH Bursary
Please complete an application form and return it to us at [email protected] . Sunderland Schools can apply for a maximum of 4 bursaries per visit.
