Our range of apparatus - from the low ropes course to the various elements of the High Challenge to the legendary Big Swing - provides challenges for at all levels for individuals and teams
Canoeing
Our canoes are great for exploring Derwentwater and for teamwork. After learning skills on the lake, a trip down the River Derwent is a great experience.

Sailing

Hill walking
Surrounded by mountains, the choice of walks of every grade is endless. From challenging scrambles on the ridges to gentle walks along the lake shore, there is something for everyone
Ghyll Scrambling & Canyoning
Ghyll scrambling and canyoning involve travelling up or down rocky Lakeland streams negotiating pools, rock steps and waterfalls along the way. Great fun and excellent for bringing out the best in a team.
Orienteering
Known as the “thought sport”, orienteering is a great individual, family or group activity. It can be done either as a gentle stroll or as a competition, or adapted as a challenging team project. With courses both in our grounds and in the local forests there are lots of options.
Bushcraft
The grounds of Derwent Hill are ideal for a first experience of bushcraft. Building and lighting fires to cook on is great fun and needs careful preparation. Creating a shelter out of basic materials all adds to the experience.

We have a huge range of innovative tasks to challenge teams, ranging from short initiative problems in the grounds to complex day-long projects in Borrowdale. Tasks can be designed to suit all ages and abilities, and to focus on specific objectives and learning outcomes
